Thank you for responding to the Governor's Office of Homeland Security request for participation in this
important data survey.
The purpose of this survey is to identify the existence of databases that can be accessed by Maryland's
homeland security and emergency response communities via the Maryland Emergency Geographic Information
Network (MEGIN). This information will be accessed by emergency managers to make decisions before, during,
and after an emergency using geographic information system (GIS) tools such as the Emergency Management
Mapping Application (EMMA). EMMA is a secure, Web-based application that is currently installed at the
Maryland State Emergency Operations Center and allows users to view information from various databases
in the form of computer-based maps. EMMA is one facet of a coordinated statewide effort to enhance
situation awareness, improve the ability to analyze incidents, and foster communication. To learn more
about this effort, please explore the links and resources related to data
interoperability tools in Maryland (below).
By answering the questions in this survey, you will be creating a searchable summary of the data's
purpose, availability, and owner. This does not mean that users can search or obtain access to your
actual data. Users will merely be able to access the information you provided in your survey.
Issues such as data security, accessibility, privacy, and distribution will be addressed in follow-up
discussions.
Users who only want to search surveys are not required to request a login ID. However, if your agency
does not currently have GIS data but may have GIS data I the future, please obtain a login and submit a
"person" entry. We will then have the information we need to contact you in the future with updates,
potential GIS data, geographic applications, various projects, or other database issues.
If you have any questions about how to complete the survey, please contact
gisdatasurvey@towson.edu.
